"The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in books and libraries; to focus public attention on library services, facilities and needs; to accept donations of books, desirable collections, endowments, bequests and money; and to engage in fundraising activities on behalf of the library."
Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month, and are open to the public.
The FRIENDS sponsor year-round programs for adults, children and teens. We provide funding for the annual Literary Festival and its guest authors. We help the Durango small-business community through workshops. We have purchased toddler-friendly computers for the Children's library.
Everywhere you go in the library, you'll encounter FRIENDS' contributions, big and small!

Donation Policy
The Friends of the Durango Public Library accepts donations at the library during hours which the library is open. We cannot accept magazines, outdated medical books, textbooks, encyclopedias, CDs, VHS or cassette tapes. Books in poor condition, water-stained, dirty or torn will not be accepted.
Keep in mind that our local used bookstores and thrift shops may be interested in your items as well. You can also recycle your paperbacks and your hardcover books (if you remove the cover).
2022 Bookmark Contest Results
This annual contest is open to all students in the Durango area. Each bookmark displays original artwork illustrating a quote from a book of the artist’s choice. 2,500 bookmarks have been printed of each of the winners’ and runners-up’ bookmarks and are available in the library and at Maria’s. You can view giant bookmark replicas of these collectibles in the library lobby and in Maria’s Bookshop.
