Get Ready to Read
Children who enter school with strong pre-reading skills are ready to succeed. As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. Here are some fun, easy ways to help your child get ready to read:
- Sing - Singing songs and learning rhymes helps children hear the smaller sounds in words.
- Talk - Talking with your child and listening to what they have to say teaches kids to tell their own stories.
- Read - Reading together creates a love of books, and is the very best way to build a rich vocabulary.
- Play - Kids learn best when they are having fun and exploring their world!
- Write - Look at letters and help your child see that print is everywhere.
The library offers thousands of children’s books, plus storytimes and other resources to help you raise a reader. Library staff is ready to help you find what you are looking for – ask us!
